Only 14 More LossesOne hundred losses is within our grasp. It's so close you can smell it. When I walked in our house this evening, I turned on the television. I was pleased to see the Chicago Cubs were beating the Washington Nationals, 2-1. Yes, it was early in the game. I walked into the kitchen for a few moments. I couldn't have been gone for more than a one, maybe two minutes. When I returned to the living room, the Cubs were trailing 4-2. The final was 9-2. That extends the current losing streak to six games.
The Cubs were already eliminated from the National League Central race. Following their loss this evening, their chances of winning one of the two NL wild card spots are now slim. Their elimination number is down to three. That means any combination of wins by the Atlanta Braves and St. Louis Cardinals, or Cubs losses equaling three will bump the Cubs from postseason play.
