MLB 2012 Game #13: Padres vs. Brewers

Tonight's game almost had meaning. After being out of contention most of this season, the Milwaukee Brewers made a triumphant rise from mediocrity to join the National League Wild Card race. Last week, the Brewers were officially eliminated after moving to within two games of the St. Louis Cardinals and the second wild card spot.

Earlier this season, I mentioned that I haven't attended as many games as I normally do. Following the All-Star Game, that number increased. Today, we are pulling off a two city doubleheader. In the past, I've attended doubleheaders at Wrigley Field and at old Comiskey Park. In 1990, I did attend the final Chicago White Sox season opener at old Comiskey Park during the day, then the Chicago Cubs opener at Wrigley Field that evening. The Cubs game was eventually rained out. This afternoon we are attending the Cubs/Astros game at Wrigley Field, then we are heading north to Milwaukee's Miller Park for the final game of season between the San Diego Padres and Brewers. We were there almost exactly one year ago for our first playoff game experience.

Today, the Padres will send Andrew Werner (2-3, 4.78 ERA) to the mound. The Brewers will counter with Josh Stinson (0-0, 0.00 ERA) who will make his major league debut.
