There's a Mess in Green Bay

Is anyone following the Brett Favre fiasco in Green Bay? If not, Brett Favre, the legendary quarterback for the Green Bay Packers retired after last season. Now he wants to return. He claims he will return to Packers camp next week, but he has not filed for reinstatement yet. I feel for you Aaron Rodgers.

Do you think Favre will play in the 2008-2009 season? If so, where? Will Green Bay take him back, or even want him back?

What is it with guys who do this big farewell and retire and then bolt back? I'm no sports fan so maybe I have no reason to make any arguments or even mention it but I don't think they do themselves proud to come rushing back like they didn't think it through, got forced into it and now changed their minds, panicked after a few weeks of retirement.

The problem with Favre is that the Packers were planning a number retirement ceremony. I guess that is on hold now.

This is the most interesting sports story for me. With genuine conflicts all around, it's Favre's turn to make the next move, then the Packers have to make a decision that could either haunt the franchise forever or endear management to the fans forever. Or Brett Favre, a genuine American sports hero, could end up playing his last year(s) for the NY Jets? Don't do that, Brett.

Why did he retire in the first place??

This story is crazy. I heard that he was banned from camp, and he begged to be allowed in. He was supposedly putting the Packer staff in a tough spot because he was saying he was going to show up. This is definitely making him seem desperate, not the way you want to go out!

Maybe he had a sub-prime mortgage and can't pay the bills. It's easy to blow through tens of millions in a 20 year career. We will see him on diet commercials any day now.

Am I the only one who thinks Favre is a bit overrated? Maybe it's because I'm not a Packers fan or that for me, NFL football is simply a game; players come and go. Many are really good players, like Walter Payton, Boomer Esiason, Terry Bradshaw, Joe Namath, etc. Sure, I totally enjoyed watching them play, but when their time was up, their time was up! Other players fit into the slots left behind and made names for themselves; players like Brett. So now, we have Peyton and Eli Manning, Terrell Owens, Plaxico Burress, Cato June, Javon Walker, etc. And after they retire, others will fill their vacancies.

Move on Brett.

Old football players never die, they just keep doing replays.

Favre was pressured to give an answer before the NFL Draft so the Packers would know what direction to go in. He understood why they asked for it, and gave his best answer at the time. The Packers drafted another good QB, Brian Brohm from Louisville, and moved on.

Favre will be back, in another uniform, not the Bears or Vikings.
