Disco Demolition Night: 30 Years Later

If you've been following my blog, at times I've made reference to Disco Demolition Night at old Comiskey Park. The Chicago White Sox were scheduled to play a double header against the Detroit Tigers on July 12, 1979. Fans were allowed entrance to the old ballpark for 98 cents and a disco 45. As part of a Steve Dahl radio promotion between games those records were destroyed between the two games. Ultimately, the second game was cancelled and the White Sox had to forfeit due to field conditions.

For a quick trip back in time, here are two videos.

ABC Chicago's footage

The Chicago Tribune posted photos from the event.

Seems like a fire in center field is a bit much. :)

I was just looking at buying cubs tickets...I think I'm going to try and start a riot to send a message about the price of tickets. 98 CENTS?!!!! I want that ticket price again. My fav part of the ABC video....when the "Disco sucks" chant starts. And then when the anchor says "There was a log of drugs. You could smell Marijuana."
