An Apple Weekend

Looking back at this weekend, I think it's safe to say it was Apple-themed.

Last week, Susan and I decided it was time to upgrade our 9-year-old Apple G3 iMac. It's been with us since October 2002 and it lived a busy life. On Friday, our new iMac was shipped to my office. Of course, I participated in a golf fundraiser so I didn't get a chance to open it up and get it running until late that evening. Right now, I am trying make sure that I've searched every last corner of my old machine to uncover any photos that might remain. I still need to transfer my iTunes library. I'll get that later.

This morning, Susan and I made our annual trek to Edward's Apple Orchard in Poplar Grove, Illinois. If you're not familiar with Poplar Grove, it's a small town just outside of Rockford, close to the Wisconsin border. Each year around my birthday, we head there to pick apples by hand from their orchard. This weekend, we only had access to Jonathon and Jonagold apples. We also stop in the barn to buy apple cider, bacon, jelly, and pumpkins for Halloween. This year, we opted for White Pumpkins.

I guess I'll wrap up my weekend by slicing up an apple and finishing this blog.

What is it with white pumpkins this year? I've seen them everywhere. Is this something new?

No idea. I've never noticed them before.

As the younger generation might say, "Orange is so yesterday!" White pumpkins are albinos and are becoming very, very popular. I found on Google some interesting names for these white orbs: Ghost Pumpkins, Luminas, Snowballs, and Caspers (the Friendly Ghost?).

Bill: How did you shoot the little White Ball? What is this with Albino Pumpkins? I haven't seen any here, but I haven't looked either but maybe I will this weekend. Post a picture of one of these creatures. The next thing will be White Yams, which there are now, but people prefer the dark ones.

My golf outing on Friday? My foursome won lowest score in the best ball competition. Glad we played best ball. The wind was intense. Probably the most intense wind I've ever played in before.

Yes, the wind was very intense. We were on the road all day so we could really feel it, and we even saw a semi turned over beside the road somewhere in Illinois. Don't know for sure if it was the wind but it could have been.

One of my drives probably flew by your car, too.
