MLB 2011 Game #8: White Sox vs. Cubs
Prior to this season, I haven't attended a Cubs/White Sox game since the 2005. This year, I've compensated by landing tickets to one game on each side of town. Last week, I made the trip to US Cellular Field. Bad outcome for the Cubs, and some local trees. What a storm that night. Today, I am joining a group a guys from my office and catching a game at Wrigley Field. It's been quite a baseball week for me. Let's see. I've played catch at Wrigley Field on Saturday, caught a Cubs/Giants game on Wednesday, and today a Cubs/White Sox game. Not too bad.The Chicago White Sox will send Edwin Jackson (4-6, 4.13 ERA) to the mound. The White Sox enter this series on a two-game winning streak. They come to Wrigley Field after winning their interleague series against the Colorado Rockies two games to one. Sitting in third place in the American League Central, they trail the Detroit Tigers by four games.
The Chicago Cubs will counter with Randy Wells (1-2, 6.25 ERA). Just like the White Sox, they enter the series riding a two-game winning streak. They split their series at home against the San Francisco Giants two games a piece. They find themselves buried in fifth place in the National League Central, and trail the Milwaukee Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals by 10 games.
Once again, the Cubs will attempt to string together their first three-game winning streak of the season.
Currently, the standings in the National League Central look like this:
Milwaukee Brewers 44-38 .537 ---
St. Louis Cardinals 44-38 .537 ---
Pittsburgh Pirates 41-39 .513 2.0 GB
Cincinnati Reds 42-40 .512 2.0 GB
Chicago Cubs 34-48 .415 10.0 GB
Houston Astros 29-53 .354 15.0 GB
