The Race in the NL Central (Part IV)

Despite sweeping the Milwaukee Brewers on the road last week, the St. Louis Cardinals only managed to pick up on game in the standings over the last seven days. They enter action on Monday sitting in second place in the National League Central trailing the Brewers by 9 1/2 games. This afternoon, the Cardinals and Brewers begin their final three head-to-head games this season. At best, if the Cardinals could complete their second consecutive sweep of the Brewers, they would still trail them by 6 1/2 games with 19 games left. But following the Brewers series, the Cardinals will welcome the National League wild card leading Atlanta Braves for three games.

The remaining schedules for the Brewers and Cardinals prove interesting. Over the next week, both teams face likely playoff-bound teams. Following that, their schedules become soft.
