On Campy Campaneris Night at Kansas Cityís Municipal Stadium, a crowd of 21,576 showed up to witness a different kind of baseball history. Bert Campaneris of the Kansas City Athletics became the first major leaguer to play all nine positions in a game. The event was dampened as the Athletics lost to the California Angels 5-3 in 13 innings. Campaneris was also lost to his team for a few days after a nasty home-plate collision with California catcher Ed Kirkpatrick. Read about that game according to SABRís Games Project.
