Described by Westbrook Pegler as a “tall, loose-jointed rustic from El Dorado, Arkansas,” Rowe took the American League by storm in 1934, his second season in the big leagues. A torn muscle in Rowe’s right arm had prematurely ended his rookie season in July of 1933 and cast doubts on his future.
